The Main Characters

Shinn Asuka
Supposedly the main character, but is currently turning out to be more of a sub-character. Originally a refugee from the nation of Orb, Shinn Asuka is now one of the "red suit" elite pilots of the ZAFT military. After losing his family and beloved sister to crossfire from the Freedom during one of the key battles in the prequel series, Gundam Seed, Shinn swore revenge in his heart and enlisted in the military under the recommendation of the Orb commander who found him. He now pilots the ZAFT military's newest unit, the Impulse, supposedly an upgraded version with the ability to transform from three single mobile armour parts into a whole GUNDAM unit. It includes features such as a ray from the Minerva mothership, which can recharge its battery back to full power in midair.

Athrun Zala
In this series, Athrun Zala reemerges as the famous Ace pilot who fought beside the Freedom in his Justice at the deciding battle of Jacchin Due. He is invited back to re-enlist with the ZAFT forces by the new Chairman Dullindal, among the ranks of the topmost elite called FAITH - those who have proven and pledged their hearts to loyalty, and in Athrun's case, loyalty to whatever he believes is truly right. He becomes the mentor of Shinn Asuka and the other ace pilots on ZAFT's newest warship, the Minerva. However, as in the prequel series Gundam Seed, Athrun is once again face-to-face with his best friend Kira Yamato on the battlefield.

Kira Yamato
Kira's BACK! This time as the legendary pilot of the equally legendary gundam Freedom. At first, he seems to linger sadly at his solitary home with Rakusu Clyne, but after a tragic incident with Junius 7 on the crash course to Earth, Kira once again understands that he must return to the battlefield. This time, Kira is portrayed as the seasoned solder who has straightened out most of his ideals to perfection - until he meets Athrun as the enemy once again.

Lacus Clyne
The daughter of the late Chairman Clyne, who believed that Naturals and Coordinators should live in peace with each other, and a famed songstress among the Coordinators. Lacus has become a pillar that Kira leans on, and it would seem that the both of them have become a "cute couple." She is often portrayed as singing and flowery, and also a source of great wisdom when it comes to matters of peace and war. She becomes, basically, everyone's source of comfort.

Cagalli Yula Attha
The once-immature commander of the Orb military forces, and daughter of the beloved Yula Attha, previous leader of that powerful, neutral nation, is still immature. She finds herself torn by the corruption of the Earth Alliance and its powerful influence on the Council, and her father's ideals of peace and neutrality. Perhaps rather than acting rashly this time, she will mature into the Matriarch of her country - a position of leadership she was destined to fulfill.

Chairman Gilbert Dullindal
The newest Chairman of the coordinator space nation. Half of the story revolves around the mysterious inner-workings behind this chess mastermind. Though he does not seem to desire the annihilation of the Naturals, he bears no hesitation in utilizing military force when it comes to the defense of his people.

Stellar Loussier
A mysterious pilot from the Earth Alliance with a tragic past. She was one of the children who had been a "success" in a heartless science laboratory that specialized in the creation of human tools of war. Drugged beyond her mind, she fights with a ferocity that equals that of the coordinators. She finds a protector in Shinn, however, and from that moment on, begins to heal from the inhuman acts that destroyed her inner child.

Lunamaria Hawke
One of the pilots stationed with the warship Minerva. She, like Athrun did in Gundam Seed, wears the red uniform of the elite ace pilots of the ZAFT forces. She pilots the mobile suit called the "Zaku," supposedly an upgraded version from the old Jinns from Jacchin Due. Her sister works as one of the crew by the captain's side at the bridge of the ship. She shows an open admiration for Athrun as the legendary ace pilot who fought in Jacchin Due, but oftentimes finds herself confused over whose command she and her friends actually fall under.

Captain Talia Gladys
Captain of ZAFT's newest warship, the Minerva. She seems to have a relationship - or at least had one in the past - with the Chairman Dullindal. Her responsibilities clearly lie with the Minerva, and she seems to go mostly by the book. When athrun was given a post as a member of ZAFT's elite military - FAITH - Gladys was also given that honor.
