I've been having quite a few problems at home (which I commented on
AP Clash 2010 during the final round post)...SOOO I decide to go hiking to release some stress.
I went to two hikes - one easy 5-hour one on Saturday, and then a tougher OMGI'MGONNADIEWAITNEVERMIND 2-3 hour hike on Sunday. The first hike was kinda uneventful and long; the second one had more to see and fit more with the cliche woodsy feeling you think of when you go on hikes.
The second one was apparently engulfed in flames a few years back, and was also the scene of a mountain-lion-kills-hiker incident shortly after. You could see long sections of dead areas, and even longer stretches of new plant life emerging. At the top, I saw a pretty cool tree that..well..reminded me of the whole "life from the ashes" theme:
Tree at the Top of the Mountain
The huge blackened branches of the burned tree poking out of a new tree growing out of the center.
It's cheesy, but it felt like a message x).

Sounds rough, I haven been out of the city and in to any woodlands for eons.
Ug, that doesn't sound like much fun. I go hiking when I got to the hill country in Texas but I can't go for long because I'm so out of shape. Still, it is nice to get out in nature from time to time.
I find that, sometimes, the cheesy things can be the most beautiful and meaningful.
I wish I could of explored that second trail. I've always wanted to see the after-effects of a fire on a trail and all the rebirth of the plant life.
What a wonderful way to spend your weekend. I am so jealous.
