The Main Characters

Kurosaki Ichigo
The typical overconfident, unreasonable, foolhardy male with a sharp streak of inner talent and a softy at heart. He is definitely not your best strategist when it comes to fighting - he fights in a straight line. Short, to the point, with no hidden intentions - no tactic and no real idea of what he's doing. But his strongest point is his seemingly endless source of power, and that he is motivated by a need to protect (even if only to brag about it later on). From my own standpoint, I find it hard to understand how he can possibly hang onto a sword with no guard on it (the piece of metal that shields the blade from the handle) - the whole reason guards exist is to protect the swordmaster from slipping his/her hand down past the handle and onto the sharp edge of the blade. I suppose this may be another way of seeing Ichigo - incredible power, but uncontrolled. He got lucky haha.

Kuchiki Rukia
The female antagonist, who starts off leading the storyline, and ends as Ichigo's sidekick. Personally I find it a bit of a disappointment that her strong character suddenly develops into a sorry, depressing figure - "damsel in distress." Still, she seems to come from an interesting background that I would definitely take the time to learn more about if the series ever digs into that (as it's still coming out). From my impressions, Rukia was adopted into an elite family whose name seems to draw an almost fearful respect from the rest of the Shinigamis. This was a loveless family though - demonstrated by the seeming indifference her "brother" shows her when she is forced back to Soul Society (haha funny name for a community).
