      Nausicaa

Saturday, March 24, 2007 | Posted by Jay I love Miyazaki's films - they always seem to have a life of their own. I watched Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind in Japanese - there was no subbed or dubbed version in the set I had - and even though I couldn't understand all the stuff they were saying, the animated images just told the story by itself.
So here's a before-and-after on the Nausicaa wall I did almost a year ago (dang - time passes by fast!).

Click on the image to view a larger version.

      Before

      After

The girl is based on the scan, and most of the frontal scenery which had some photoshop edits to it. The mountains and background were a mix of stock photos and photoshop magic; the windmills I drew myself and added them on (what better to represent a "valley of wind" but windmills?).

This wall was actually the first one I worked on after I bought my beloved mac. I started out CG-ing it in Illustrator...but eventually admitted defeat and went back to the more familiar Photoshop.

Aiye, I like your windmills. :) I think they fit perfectly in the landscape; and with the title "valley of wind," it would all make sense then why little windmills are present. XD~ (it's possible to have windmills especially since the valley does have a lot of wind in it... so yea!)

Your art never ceases to amaze me!! XD~

This is one of maybe 3 walls ive used from your site. As for illustrator, Ive heard its more powerful if you are drawing because of the focused toolset and many keyboard shortcuts for the pen tool, because of the gradient mesh, which I dont think you can replicate in Photoshop, and because its easier to resize items later, in case you want to make the drawing poster-sized

Woah o___O The before and after is... :O I love it when you show a before and after. Really shows the effort you put in when creating images like that.

Hmm, yet another masterpiece. I'm a fan of Miyazaki movies so I was really happy to see this piece. Nausicaa was a really good movie
