If you haven't already seen Mushishi, I would highly recommend it. Even just a few episodes would do ~ it's a conglomeration of several short stories with one big theme. A few of them go into more detail about Ginko's (the main character's) past.
The rule I made for myself this time was that I had to start with white space and fill in black space (oddly enough, this is the opposite of what I usually do when I vector).

I realized later that it looked like he was praying -_- which was totally not what I was going for. He's actually lighting a cigarette (which, in the story is supposed to be a way to ward off Mushi).
I personally disapprove of smoking and avoid the smell whenever possible. Because I don't want to make smoking seem like a "cool" image, I also try to avoid using anything involving cigarettes whenever possible.

Very cool effects featured in the wall. It really has the feeling of motion and flow. I've never seen Mushishi, good thing its summer, I might have time to check it out. :)
