ぐぎゅう - can it be a sound of hungry stomach?

Yes, likely a combination of *gu* and *gyuu*.

      Tani @ Friday, January 6, 2012 -- 8:36 am

How about ジャブジャブ? Apparently, it's the sound of water splashing.

      Added, thanks! :)

      DarkShadowTautology @ Monday, January 2, 2012 -- 2:34 pm

How about adding the sfx "Topu topu"?
I've seen it used for pouring a cup of tea and in an adult manga where it was also used as the pouring sound of ...another liquid.

      Added, thanks :).

I'm guessing she's crying in pain, but I've never seen mi with a tenten before.

The tenten or "dakuon" literally means turbid or murky sound. In this case, the "mi" is simply a muddled, stuffy-nosed 「みっ」 SFX.

Hi, I'm currently writing a Manga-style comic that I'm putting on deviantArt and I thought it would be cool to add Japanese sound effects. I just have to say that THIS SITE IS AWESOME!!!! Anywayz, I was trying to figure out a sound effect for someone slamming their hands down on a table; I was thinking possibly バン ban but I was wondering if there was a SFX that was more specific to that action. Do you have a better suggestion?
      ~TJK Ernst

*ban* is pretty generic and common for slam sounds, but if you want you could also try *patan*.

Tip: If you go to any definition page, like for *ban* when you click on the "More" link, scroll down to Related Searches and you'll find more.

This site is the greatest thing to ever happen for aspiring non-Japanese mangaka who don't want to use English SFX *___* Thank you so much! This is an incredibly resource!

      You're very welcome.

do they not have sfx for ri ru and ro? I find them conspicuously missing.

So far I haven't found any SFX's for リ, ル, and ロ. However, when/if I do, I'll be sure to add them in. (And of course, if you come across any that you wouldn't mind sharing as well, that would be most appreciated!)

any ideas what ぷしゃぁあ (pushaaa) could be, i searched the net but couldnt find it, thx

I would break it down to "pu" and "shaa". So, without looking at any context, I'd say it might be a "pop" or "puncture" + "whoosh" or "splash" (something pouring out).

      Redprincess @ Wednesday, November 2, 2011 -- 12:50 am

I love your SFX page. It would be so awesome if this site could be turned into a book or a droid app! I would buy it in a heart beat! Thanks for the hard work!

You know, that's definitely an idea. I'm totally adding that one to my to-do list.

Glad you like the dictionary :).

      Giulia @ Sunday, October 30, 2011 -- 9:49 am

Hi, I'm afraid there's a problem with the website. I can't browse the sfx dictionary and the search function doesn't work. Every time I click on a katakana character or do a search, it loads the same page (the index page). :(

Should work now, thanks for letting me know!
